whAT we offer...


Weekly curriculum based programming in the areas of self confidence, business and leadership, academic success, public presentation and etiquette, diversity and community, and  financial management. We will bring our enrichment to you! Our curriculum is designed to enrich girls once a week for a minimum of 6 weeks. Our educators will provide curriculum and hands on activities that will enhance their growth as a young lady.

*A minimum of 6 weeks of programming is required.

S.O.L.E. Academy is a Saturday enrichment training for participants in Kalamazoo County. Classes are available in the areas of self-confidence, business and leadership, academic success, public presentation and etiquette, diversity and community, and financial management. Being educated in these areas creates a sense of self-worth. Our goal is to help scholars find their purpose, embrace who they are, and equip them with essential skills. Velma Lee Jones (1922-2015) was born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama. She moved to Michigan in the early 1940’s. She worked for the Ferndale Public School system where she worked for over 30 years. During her tenure in the public school system she was also an entrepreneur of a self-service laundry facility. Her mother was also a businesswoman; selling products like Avon and Amway. Velma loved to travel and traveled extensively to six out of seven continents! Velma was a giving spirit and was always willing to step in to help others.


Velma L. Jones Foundation, a private foundation committed to providing exposure and experiences in career exploration, entrepreneurship, business, finance, and leadership. If you are a middle school or high school girl wishing you could afford that camp, workshop, or conference to better prepare you for your future, you’re in luck! We want to make that possible for you! Essays are required to be considered.
